Il passeggero di nazionalità coreana si trovava a bordo di una nave da crociera a circa 160 km a sud ovest a largo della Sardegna L’80° Centro C/SAR è uno dei reparti del 15° Stormo dell’Aeronautica Militare che garantisce 24 ore su 24, per 365 giorni all’anno, la ricerca ed il soccorso degli equipaggi di volo in difficoltà, inoltre concorre ad attività di pubblica utilità quali la ricerca di dispersi in mare o in montagna, il trasporto sanitario d’urgenza di ammalati in pericolo di vita ed il soccorso di traumatizzati gravi.
