Dal 28 Giugno intensa attività addestrativa dei cacciabombardieri dell’Aeronautica Militare nella base aerea di Eielson in Alaska Tra le varie attività addestrative che i velivoli stanno effettuando all’interno del poligono PARC (Pacific Alaskan Range Complex), vi sono anche gli sganci di armamento di precisione inerte come le GBU 16 e le GBU 24, incluse le funzioni di ‘Buddy lasing’, mediante il “designatore laser”. La GBU 24 fa parte della famiglia delle bombe Paveway III a guida laser del peso di 1066 Kg che dà la possibilità all’equipaggio di scegliere diverse tipologie di sgancio, ossia è possibile scegliere il profilo di volo in funzione del danno richiesto sull’obbiettivo assegnato; in particolare tale tipo di armamento è ottimizzato per sgancio a bassa quota e per target di tipo rinforzato ed è in dotazione ai velivoli della NATO. I Tornado hanno anche effettuato sganci con armamenti non di precisione come MK 82 e MK 83, nonché attività di addestramento alla bassissima quota operativa e Guerra Elettronica. Nell’esercitazione i velivoli ‘Aggressor’, costituiti dai caccia F-16C+ del 18th Squadron di Eielson con il supporto dei piloti e dei mezzi del Gruppo di Nellis (Nevada), simulano le tattiche nemiche più avanzate e quindi più impegnative da contrastare.
