The purpose of the visit was to test the capabilities of the Department in view of the future restructuring of the NATO contingent in Kosovo following “Gate 3”.”
The delegation was welcomed by Colonel Pilot Andrea Massucci, Commander of the TFA (Task Force Air), who subsequently held an informative briefing on the activities and operational-logistical capabilities of the base. The purpose of the visit was precisely that, within the context of the current restructuring of the NATO contingent in Kosovo that will take place following “Gate 3”, to test the capabilities of the Department and assess any future developments thereof. The visit then continued with an inspection of all the Department’s components.
The meeting concluded with the signing of the Honor Roll by General Chatzidimas, who in that context expressed his appreciation for the excellent support that the A.M.I.Ko airport is able to provide to the NATO contingent in Kosovo engaged in the “Joint Enterprise” operation. The presence of the Italian Armed Forces in Kosovo stems from United Nations Security Council resolutions No. 1244 of June 12, 1999. The purpose is to contribute to the security and stability of the entire geographical area, support activities related to the fight against terrorism and contribute to the implementation of the technical-military agreement that provides for the establishment in Kosovo of a safe environment that allows the return of refugees and displaced persons and promotes the establishment of civilian activities. Since 1999, thousands of Italian military personnel have been deployed in this theater to support peace and respect for human rights.
