The training is aimed at instilling in all military personnel the values and founding principles of belonging to the Air Force, through targeted and essential teaching methods for carrying out all functions connected with their status (rank, role, and category). Training, completed with instruction, forms the essential prerequisite for deployment.
The Academy is the training institute responsible for the initial military, moral, and professional training of young people destined to become Officers of the Air Force.
In particular, it provides:
– for the moral and military training of young people aspiring to become officers in the Permanent Regular Service (S.P.E.) of the Air Force in the roles provided by the Armed Force;
– to the training of Special Roles Officers and those appointed directly;
– to specific vocational training and, where applicable, university education, which are prerequisite to exercising command in directive and managerial roles within the Armed Force;
– for the conduct of pre-flight courses for Officer Cadets of the Air Force and of other Armed Forces or Armed Corps of the State, as well as for any other course deemed necessary.
The objective is to train young officers with sound moral principles, who are motivated and possess the personal, military and professional qualities necessary to operate effectively in service to the country.
The Italian Air Force Marshal's School/Viterbo Airport Command performs a dual mission: on one hand, it operates as a university-level institute responsible for the military and moral training, as well as the specific professional education of Marshals of the Non-Commissioned Officers Corps, in addition to refining and updating this training. On the other hand, as a military airport open to civilian traffic, it provides technical-operational support and air navigation services at Tommaso Fabbri Airport.
The School also organises other training activities, including Military Shooting Instructor courses, Qualified Counsellor courses in International Humanitarian Law (IHL) in collaboration with the Italian Red Cross, and specialisation courses for Telephoto Journalists.
The current training path for Officer Cadet Marescialli courses is structured over 3 years of study, at the end of which attendees obtain a first-level Degree in “Political Science and International Relations – Course in Aeronautical Professional Sciences and Techniques”. An exception is made for Cadets belonging to the Aircraft Support/Maintenance category/specialty who attend the course in “Aeronautical Maintenance Sciences and Techniques”.
The Italian Air Force Volunteers' School is the sole national centre for the basic training of Italian Air Force Ranks and therefore carries out the primary educational and training activities connected with the formation of the Armed Force's enlisted personnel.
In particular, it is responsible for the incorporation, training, and instruction of Fixed-Term Volunteers (V.F.I.) who join the Armed Force through public competition, the selection and aptitude phases of which take place at the School's facilities.
It also deals with the training of successful candidates for four-year fixed-term volunteer service (V.F.P.4).
It also guarantees the training of enlisted personnel, who, having completed the courses for 4-Year Volunteer professionals, attend the preparatory course for entry into the Permanent Service (V.S.P.).
