To defend Italy, its territory, its sovereignty and its vital interests, ensuring the readiness, operational effectiveness and employment of the Air Force within the framework of the national and international security system.
The Italian Air Force operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, for the Security and the defence of the country and its citizens, guaranteeing the Check and the surveillance of national airspace and that of the Euro-Atlantic and Euro-Mediterranean area; it also protects vital national interests abroad, within the scope of numerous international Operations and Missions.
The Air Force is also involved in numerous activities to directly support the community and other national and international institutions (e.g., with emergency medical transport, search and rescue, and assistance to populations in the event of public disasters, etc.).
The international community recognises the Italian Air Force, and therefore the country, as having capabilities of excellence that allow it to be a leader in sectors such as the fighter component, flight training, air transport, including bio-containment medical transport, the use of remotely piloted aircraft, aerospace, space, advanced logistics management, and meteorology.
