A day of memories for the more than 700 participants, which ended with the flight of the tricolor Frecce
The day began with a solemn flag-raising ceremony, during which an olive wreath was placed at the foot of the monument to the fallen at the airport, in memory of those who, over the years, served under the banners of the “Black Knight” until the ultimate sacrifice. For the gatherers there was also the opportunity to visit the various static exhibitions of aircraft and missile systems prepared for the occasion, but also to immerse themselves in memories through the projection of videos and a photographic exhibition dedicated to the history of the department. The office of the Stormtrooper Commander, Colonel Enrico Frasson, was also open on the occasion, with the opportunity for everyone to visit the Stormtrooper War Flag, decorated with a silver medal for military valor and a bronze medal for civilian valor. Colonel Frasson, speaking to the “black knights” of yesterday and today, addressed them with the “wish that today’s day may contribute, through the affectionate exchange with those who preceded us in the ranks of the Second Squadron, to strengthen that sense of belonging and attachment to traditions that goes far beyond time, group, or aircraft in service”. The morning concluded with a training flight by the National Acrobatics Patrol, which, between 2002 and 2007, carried out its activities under the responsibility of the 2nd Squadron. Rivolto Airport is home to the 2nd Squadron and the 313th Acrobatic Training Group “Frecce Tricolori”. The Squadron, under the effigy of the black knight with the sun shining in the background, in addition to providing direct support to the activities of the National Acrobatics Patrol, is the Air Force Department identified as the reference for the missile component of the Armed Forces.
