Informative conference on the activities of the Air Force before the Military Justice Authorities The conference was attended by the Chief of Staff, General of the Air Force Pasquale Preziosa, who highlighted the strategic areas and profiles for the future of the Armed Forces, with particular reference to the importance that security in its various aspects holds, as a prerequisite for operational action and as an essential environmental factor.
The Head of SMA finally emphasized the need to harmonize military criminal legislation in relation to the new national, but above all international, tasks carried out by the Armed Forces. The General Staff/Organisations of the Air Force were also represented, in the presence of the General Staff Logistics Officer of the Air Force Gabriele Salvestroni, the Commander of the AM Schools/3rd Air Region – General Staff Officer Franco Girardi, the Director of the Directorate of Employment of Military Personnel of the Air Force – General Staff Officer Roberto Corsini, the Commander of the Military Air Command Rome – General Staff Officer Paolo Rizzo, some Department Heads of the General Staff of the Air Force and General Officers of the Air Force Command.
Numerous representatives of the Military Judiciary intervened, both at Palazzo Aeronautica and via videoconference from the headquarters of the Military Tribunals of Verona and Naples. After the intervention of the Head of SMA, the Vice President of the Council of the Military Judiciary – Dr. Antonio Scaglione took the floor, agreeing with the need to reformulate the concept of military criminal offense, linking it to substantial profiles more closely aligned with the operational needs represented by the Head of SMA.
The Vice President also highlighted the need to maintain the current locations of the Military Judicial Offices, taking into account the minimal representativeness guaranteed in the territory and the fact that statistics confirm the swiftness of the proceedings, within the reasonable duration of the process, by the adjudicating bodies. The subsequent conference, conducted by General Maurizio Lodovisi, explained to the participants the complex activities carried out by the AM in general, with particular reference to the tasks of the Air Force Command, within the delicate organizational restructuring that the Armed Forces have been facing for some time.
In the margins of his speech, General Lodovisi highlighted the fruitful exchange of knowledge and experiences that took place, despite their respective areas of competence, with the Military Justice Bodies. The C.S.A. is hierarchically superior to the operational bodies/departments peripheral to the Air Force (Intermediary Commands, Brigades, Storms, Airports, Flight Groups, Radar Groups, Training Bodies, etc.). The institutional task assigned to the High Command is to prepare such Units so that they acquire and maintain the level of operational readiness and logistical autonomy necessary to achieve the objectives defined by the Armed Forces. Within the rationalization process that has been ongoing for years in the Defense Department, the C.S.A. has also assumed, since January 1, 2011, the operational deployment functions of the subordinate departments, through the structure of the Air Operations Command (C.O.A.) in Poggio Renatico (Ferrara). Overall, the C.S.A. consists of 87 units among Commands, Departments, and Training/Operational Entities supporting operations throughout the national territory, with a total staff of approximately 19,000 personnel (including military and civilian personnel).
