The new structure will house the terminals of a highly advanced network of sensors, systems, and high-tech equipment.
The new operations room has been named after Air Squadragon General Giuseppe Valle, a heroic pioneer of the Italian Air Force from Sassari, a key figure in the historic Italy-Brazil air cruise and Chief of Staff of the Armed Force in the decade leading up to the outbreak of the Second World War.
At the event, alongside Doctor Itala Valle, daughter of the Hero and godmother of the military ceremony, Logistic Commander Air Marshal Gabriele Salvestroni, and PISQ Commander Air Brigadier General Sanzio Bonotto, the mayors of almost all the municipalities over which the Firing Range extends also participated.
The new facility is intended to become the nerve centre for the management of all training, operational and experimental activities normally carried out in “onshore” and “offshore” ranges. Renovated and improved in its configuration, the operations room has indeed been conceived and realised to meet future technological standards of national defence and NATO, and will constitute a centre of excellence also for national industry, which has actively contributed to its realisation. After the unveiling of a plaque, the ceremonial cutting of the Tricolour ribbon and the opening of the new premises housing the Command and Control system terminals, General Preziosa met with the mayors and representatives of the national industries that contributed to the construction of the facility. In his speech, General Preziosa highlighted that in recent months the Armed Force has given maximum impetus to works identifying the areas of the Range. In the Gulf of Murtas, in particular, residual materials from military activities carried out have been mapped, and will subsequently be removed. Finally, referring to the spirit of consultation that has guided relations between the Defence Ministry and Public Administrations, General Preziosa stated: “The growth and innovation of the Armed Forces can only occur in close collaboration with national industry and in compliance with the revised Environmental Protection Regulations that the Defence has adopted. Such commitments – added the Chief of Staff of the Air Force – they will have to find the necessary cooperation from Territorial Institutions and Local Authorities, in a renewed approach that takes into due account technological innovation processes and the legitimate expectations of the territory, for whose economic vocations the State Property areas not strictly necessary for military activities will have to be made available.”.
