The students of the “U. Maddalena” Institute (ONFA) at the Areale Logistics Support Center in Cadimare, during a survival training course with personnel from the 17th Storming Squadron of Furbara and the 15th Squadron of Pratica di Mare. The 4th experimental basic training course for survival was concluded on Monday, September 17, conducted for the O.N.F.A. (Opera Nazionale Figli degli Aviatori) students of the “U. Maddalena” Institute in Cadimare by personnel from the Furbara Training Group and the 15th Squadron, which took place from September 13 to 16. The course began at the Areale Support Logistics Center (C.L.S.A.) in Cadimare with a multimedia lesson focused on the objective and subjective dangers, the psychological, physical, and technical aspects that characterize a survival situation, the individual and collective equipment used by the Air Force personnel navigating the aircraft, the use of signaling and orientation equipment, the construction and assembly of a survival kit and a circumstance compass, and finally the acquisition, conservation, and rationing of water and food in survival. The theoretical phase was followed by practical survival exercises at the A.M. Compendium Isola Palmaria. In the morning of September 16, upon completion of the debriefing regarding the entire activity, all personnel returned to the C.L.S.A.. The instructors appreciated the effort, consistency, seriousness, and dedication that the O.N.F.A. students, despite their young age, put into learning the concepts taught to them. In turn, the boys thanked the instructors for their professionalism, patience, seriousness, and their “human fatherly approach” that often helped them overcome the difficulties encountered during training.
