The Ca.73 kept the fuselage of the Ca.66, with wings made of wood covered in fabric and ailerons on the lower wing only, while the new fuselage, entirely made of wood and equipped with two internal bomb racks, was positioned underneath.

It was powered by two Isotta-Fraschini Asso 500 engines in tandem, with a twin-bladed propeller at the front and a four-bladed propeller at the rear.

The first examples were delivered in 1926 to the 7th Wing at Lonate Pozzolo, while in the following years the bomber equipped five groups, as well as various training units.

The Ca.73 was retired in 1936.
