Fiat G.212

Low-wing monoplane with a cantilevered tail, tri-motor, for transport and school use for observation and aerial photography.

The prototype of the G.212, powered by an Alfa Romeo 128 engine with 860 hp, served with the Stormi transport aircraft from 1947 until 1954.

The use of six G.212 aircraft at Avio Linee Italiane, which began in March 1948, was marred by two fatal accidents, including the Superga incident, in which the entire Torino football team was destroyed on May 4, 1949.

The Air Force used this aircraft primarily for navigation training, earning the nickname of “the schoolhouse.” flying”.
The last G.212 in service was decommissioned in 1959 and is on display at the MUSAM in Vigna di Valle (RM).
