Twin-engine, low-wing cantilever monoplane bomber, multi-seat, mixed-construction.
The armament comprised four 12.7 mm guns distributed in a turret, in two side blisters, and in a ventral position. The bomb bay could accommodate up to 1,000 kg; two torpedoes could be carried on the wing roots.
The poor power and unreliability of the engines always hampered the trimotor, which was exposed to anti-aircraft fire and enemy fighter aircraft.
In the post-war period, some S.84s continued to fly with the BT Training School in Frosinone, the Sicily Aeronautics Command Flying Unit, with the 241st Squadron, and in 1948 with the 98th Group of the 46th Wing, where they were finally replaced by C-45s.
