Tuesday 7th December, at Villa Madama in Rome, the award was presented by Minister Frattini, in the presence of the Hon. Cossiga and General Bernardis. Now in its 3rd edition, the award is conferred by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs upon those who have best promoted and enhanced Italy's image worldwide. The other two ‘Italian excellences’ previously awarded were motorcycle racer Valentino Rossi and the Ferrero industry. “The Frecce Tricolori – stated Minister Frattini – bring immense pride to Italy, because their aircraft and pilots wear the Italian flag and showcase our excellence to the world. Thank you for what you do – he continued – During my missions around the world, there are very few who do not know you… you are ambassadors of Italian innovation and engineering.” General Bernardis reminded journalists and guests present at the ceremony that the granting of the ‘Winning Italy Award’ should be seen as “an achievement for the entire Italian Air Force and the whole country, which, through the Frecce Tricolori, has been able to express high technology, professionalism and the ability to work as a team.”.
