A crucial emergency medical transport mission carried out by a crew of 46th Air Brigade of Pisa with a C-130J aircraft. The mission made it possible to swiftly transfer a newborn baby in imminent danger of her life from Brindisi to Rome.

The flight, requested by Prefecture of Lecce, it was promptly arranged and coordinated in a short space of time by the Summit Situations Room of the Air Squad Command – 1st Air Region of Milan. The latter, the Air Force Command and Control Cell, immediately ordered one of the aircraft that the Armed Force keeps ready, 24 hours a day, in various bases across the country for this type of mission, to take off. In this case, given the specific need to transport the ambulance itself, on which the child was travelling, a C-130 from the 46th Air Brigade was activated, the only one capable of carrying the vehicle.

The flight, as is the case with this sort of activity, has been authorised by the Prime Minister's Office which manages and coordinates the activities of the State aircraft fleet.

The C-130J therefore took off from Pisa to head towards Brindisi airport, where it embarked the ambulance with the young patient and the accompanying medical team on board.

The transport aircraft thus ensured the rapid transfer to Rome Ciampino Airport. From here, the ambulance was able to proceed immediately towards the’Bambino Gesù Children's Hospital, where the child will receive the necessary specialist care.

Having completed the delicate mission, the C-130J returned to Pisa airbase, immediately becoming available for any further activation. to support the community.

The 46th Air Brigade of Pisa it is one of the Italian Air Force Departments that carries out operational readiness service for this type of mission, together with the 31st Wing of Ciampino, until 14th Practice Wing of Pratica di Mare and to the helicopters of the 15th Wing of Cervia. The Flying Departments are available to the public 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with vehicles and crews capable of operating, even in complex weather conditions, to ensure the urgent transport not only of people in imminent danger of death, but also of organs, medical teams or ambulances.
