The event concluded on Sunday afternoon, October 30th. Emergency medical transport, from Alghero to Genoa, carried out by aircraft Falcon 900 del 31st Wing of the Italian Air Force in favour of a newborn of only seven days.
The emergency flight, requested by Sassari Prefecture, it was immediately arranged and coordinated by Summit Situation Room of the Air Force Command, the Operations Room of the Air Force, whose tasks include activating and managing urgent medical transports, using aircraft that the Armed Force keeps ready 24 hours a day, every day of the year for such necessities.
It Falcon 900 from the 31st Wing, once it had arrived at Alghero airport, the base of the Air Force's Airport Detachment, embarked the incubator where the little patient was and immediately took off for the civilian airport Genoa.
Once he arrived at the Ligurian quay, the newborn was transferred by ambulance to the’“G. Gaslini” Paediatric Hospital”. The military aircraft then returned to Ciampino airport where it resumed its operational readiness service.
Through its Flying Departments, the Air Force makes aircraft and crews available, ready to take off at any moment and capable of operating even in complex weather conditions to ensure the urgent transport not only of people in imminent danger of death, as happened today, but also of organs and medical teams for transplants. Hundreds of flying hours are carried out each year for this type of mission by the aircraft of the 31st Wing of Ciampino, from 14th Wing of Pratica di Mare and the 46th Air Brigade in Pisa.
