On Monday 7th March, a 2-month-old baby girl was urgently transferred to the ‘Bambin Gesù’ children's hospital in the capital aboard a Falcon 50 aircraft from the 31st Wing of Ciampino. The request for transport, which was necessary to ensure the young patient received immediate specialist medical care, was sent by the hospital to the Prefecture of Cagliari and was received by the Italian Air Force Staff Situation Room, which then ordered the flight. The Falcon 50 aircraft from the 31st Wing of Ciampino (Rome) landed at the ’Mario Mameli‘ military airport in Elmas (Cagliari) at 7:28 PM local time and departed at 8:19 PM for the military airport of Ciampino, where it arrived after approximately 40 minutes of flying. The young patient, accompanied by her parents, was assisted during the flight by the medical staff of the ‘Maciotta’ paediatric clinic. Upon arriving at Ciampino airport, the baby girl was taken by ambulance to the children's hospital in the capital, where she was placed under the care of the staff of the neonatal intensive care unit at ’Bambin Gesù’.
