On Tuesday 16th February, Dr Compagnucci was welcomed upon his arrival by Colonel Cianfanelli. The Wing Commander, Colonel Paolo Cianfanelli, welcomed the guest by offering, during a briefing organised in the presence of the command staff, an overview of the multiple activities carried out by the Unit. Particular emphasis was placed on the important mission that the ‘Veltri’ have always fulfilled. The day then continued with a visit to the 23rd Fighter Group and the flight line, where the Prefect was able to meet the pilots and admire the F-16 ADF fighters deployed for operational activities. “My past experience in the Air Force as a Reserve Officer taught me that operational readiness is exclusively the result of a process, and the Air Force is the finest example of this,” with these words the Authority expressed to the Commander his appreciation for the quality of the work carried out and the professionalism demonstrated.
The 5th Wing, together with the 37th Wing of Trapani, also equipped with F-16 fighters, and the 4th Wing of Grosseto and the 36th Wing of Gioia del Colle (Bari), equipped with Eurofighter fighters, ensures the surveillance of national airspace and the area of interest 365 days a year, 24 hours a day.
