A boat with 300 people on board was spotted 250 miles south-east of Sicily, and subsequently rescued by the “Mare Nostrum” operation. During a patrol, a vessel carrying numerous individuals moving slowly towards the Italian coast was identified. An Italian Air Force aircraft flew over the area to signal an imminent danger situation, immediately reporting the information to the operational centre of the humanitarian “Mare Nostrum” operation, which promptly arranged rescue efforts.
