The Archers Nespoli, Galiazzo and Frangilli win the Gold Medal in the team archery event at the opening day of the Olympics. On their way to success, the “blue” archers beat the teams of Taipei (216 to 206), China (220 to 216), Mexico (217 to 215) and, finally, at the end of a final shot competition, the United States, thanks to the last 10 shot by Archery Captain Frangilli. A result expected, considering the caliber of our athletes: Galiazzo was individual gold in Athens 2004 and team silver in Beijing 2008; Frangilli won the team bronze in Atlanta ’96 and the team silver in Sydney 2000; Nespoli won the team silver at the Olympic debut in Beijing. This one in London is the first gold medal in the history of Italian archery, as well as the first gold medal for Italy in this edition of the Olympic Games. On the wave of this splendid triple victory, the following day Aviere Capo Diego Occhiuzzi, also a member of the Air Force, won the silver medal in the individual sabre competition. After defeating Romanian Rares Dumitrescu in the semi-final, Occhiuzzi was defeated 15 to 8 in the final by the Hungarian superstar Aron Szilayi.
