A 50-year-old man, in imminent danger of death, travelled on board an aircraft of the 31st Wing of the Italian Air Force.
It concluded in the early afternoon of today the Urgent medical transport from a 50-year-old gentleman from Lamezia Terme (CZ) to Milan Linate, carried out with an aircraft Aeronautica Militare Falcon 900.
The patient, in imminent danger of death, needed to be urgently transferred from the “G. Jazzolino” Hospital in Vibo Valentia to the “Niguarda” Hospital in Milan.
Specifically, the 50-year-old travelled under the monitoring and assistance of a medical team comprising a doctor and a nurse.
The life-saving flight, requested by the Prefecture of “Vibo Valentia”, was immediately arranged and coordinated by the Summit Situations Room of the Air Squadron Command, the operational room of the Italian Air Force which, among its duties, also includes activating and managing urgent medical transports, using the aircraft that the Armed Force keeps ready, 24 hours a day, every day of the year, for this type of need.
After the boarding operations, carried out by the crew of 31st Wing In Ciampino, the aircraft took off for Milan Linate Airport, where an ambulance awaited its arrival. It then immediately proceeded to the “Niguarda” Hospital in Milan, where the patient was admitted.
The military aircraft then returned to Ciampino Airport where it resumed operational readiness service.
The Italian Air Force's flight departments are available to the public 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with aircraft and crews capable of operating, even in complex weather conditions, to ensure the urgent transport not only of individuals in imminent danger of life, but also of organs, medical teams, or ambulances.
Hundreds of flight hours are carried out each year for this type of operation by aircraft from the 31st Wing of Ciampino, the 14th Wing of Pratica di Mare, the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa, and by helicopters from the 15th Wing of Cervia.
