The fifth edition of the “Exhibition Fair” ended on Saturday, April 20th.“Italian Days of Concrete”at Piacenza Expo, an international event dedicated to Construction technologies And to the concrete industry. The Air Force, which participated in the trade fair with an exhibition stand, presented the equipment used in the construction of airport pavements made of concrete and the complex design capabilities underlying them.

Concrete technology constitutes a large part of the airport pavements, as well as of the main operational infrastructures of the Air Force. Manufactured by the technical staff of Genio Campale Groups – Infrastructure Service of the Air Force Logistics Command –, since the works are carried out using specialized equipment for high-yield relief of the characteristics and conditions of the airport pavements, with the aim of planning the planned maintenance interventions and supporting the airport certifications. This capability is specifically guaranteed by the “Infrastructure Testing Laboratory” of the 2nd Department of Civil Engineering at Ciampino Airport.

During the first day of the event, which began on April 18, in the presence of local authorities and more than 200 exhibitors, the jury of the competition Italian Concrete Technology Awards he delivered to the Air Force, “Which virtuous Public Administration in the field of the construction of large infrastructure projects?”a reward for the contribution made during the coronavirus pandemic period, through the realization, by a task force Composed of personnel from the three Gemio Campale Groups, within the complex of the former Grand Repairs Workshops in Turin, there is a health area for intensive care intended for patients infected with Covid-19. Brigadier General Mario Sciandra, Head of the Infrastructure Service, In thanking the Air Force for the prestigious recognition, he wished to emphasize on this occasion that, “Thanks to the sacrifice of the men and women of the Navy, the Armed Forces, especially in critical moments, should put themselves at the service of the country to contribute with professionalism and dedication.”.

On the second day of the fair, as part of the conference titled “Technologies for concrete in the airport field, from the underground to satellites, from digitalization to artificial intelligence”Brig. Gen. Sciandra intervened again, emphasizing the intimate connection between the operational capabilities of the AM and the Concrete technology, This represents a very large proportion of the airport pavements and the main operational infrastructure. It is from this observation that we consider the objectives of the carbon neutrality by 2040 declared by the Air Force as part of the initiative initiated by Royal Air Force, of Global Air Forces Climate Change Collaboration, The Brigadier General addressed the operators of the sector with the invitation to develop concrete structures with ever greater durability to reduce the cost of the life cycle of the works and, consequently, the cost of the works themselves. CO2 emissions.

Next, the following person took the floor: Brigadier General Stefano Cimichella, Head of the 1st Department of the Infrastructure Service, which illustrated the evolution of the Armed Forces« infrastructure over its first 100+1 years of existence, the organization of the infrastructure sector within the AM, the main infrastructure programs underway and the future challenges posed by the »Blue Airports” program. The subsequent interventions by AM Engineering personnel touched on specific topics related to the world of concrete and pavements, also in terms of proper management of economic resources, and focused, for example, on rigid pavements and works of drainage of rainwater, and the possible applications of artificial intelligence in the monitoring of airport pavements.
