A 3rd Air Nucleus aircraft of the Coast Guard of Pescara was supported during aerial environmental remote sensing activities. The mission, aimed at monitoring the state of the waters along the coastline adjacent to the SIN of Brindisi, included flying over the site along 12 pre-planned routes within the CONTROL Zone under the responsibility of the Airspace Control Service of the detachment. The CONTROL Zone is an airspace controlled from above, starting from the surface of the earth, up to a specified upper limit (approximately 2000 meters), established to protect the climb and descent trajectories of aircraft.

Given the intense flow of air traffic that persists at the Brindisi airport, flight operations were supervised by the Air Traffic Control Service of the Salento region, in order to ensure that operations were carried out in accordance with flight safety regulations. The Brindisi detachment provides support for the “peacekeeping” operations of the “United Nations Global Service Centre”(UNGSC) and humanitarian organizations“United Nations Humanitarian Rapid Response Base”(UNHRD). It also ensures 24 hours a day, 365 days a year Air Navigation Services for Civil Aviation and assistance to passing aircraft belonging to NATO countries.
