Students and teachers of the “Pepe-Calamo” State Scientific High School in Ostuni (BR) visited the Brindisi detachment. The visits, organized by the Institute as part of the “Communication Program 2012”, in addition to providing knowledge of the aeronautical reality, offered students the opportunity to closely observe some environmental and climatic phenomena.
The guests were welcomed by the Commander of the Department, Colonel Giambattista Degiuli, who, during a briefing, explained to them the main operational and logistical activities carried out at the detachment.
Subsequently, they watched the screening of some videos produced by the Air Force General Staff.
During the visit, the students also observed the personnel of the Base while they carried out their daily activities, within the control tower, the radar room and the meteorological station.
Great interest has been aroused by the visit to the 84th Combat Search and Rescue Center (CSAR), belonging to the 15th Squadron of Cervia (Ravenna), which, through the HH-3F helicopters, ensures 24/7 search and rescue of flight crews and maritime assets in difficulty, contributing to public utility activities such as the search for missing persons at sea or in the mountains, the emergency medical transport of seriously ill people in danger of life, and the rescue of severely traumatized people and populations affected by natural disasters.
