Air Brigadier General Urbano Floreani has taken over from Air Brigadier General Giovanni Francesco Adamo.
This took place today, Friday 8th September, in the Courtyard of the Transatlantic Fliers of the Air Force Palace, In Rome, the handover ceremony for the head of 5th Department “Communication” of the Air Force General Staff between Air Vice-Marshal Giovanni Francesco Adamo and the Air Commodore Urbano Floreani.
The ceremony was presided over by Vice Chief of Staff of the Air Force, Air Force General Aurelio Colagrande, and was attended, in addition to a representation of the Department's staff, by numerous guests, both from other SMA Departments, High Commands and branches within the Palazzo AM complex, and from the various external entities with whom the Armed Force has consolidated collaborative relationships in the field of communication.
It General Adamo, in his farewell speech, wished to retrace the most important events, activities, and challenges that the Department faced and managed under his command, which began in December 2019. Just a few months later, it had to face the Covid emergency and culminated in the celebrations for the Centenary of the Air Force. “All the projects completed have been the result of tenacious and constant work, supported by our ability to adapt and by giving our best even in areas of activity sometimes far removed from our daily operations. Projects that, obviously, we would not have been able to bring to fruition without the fundamental support of important partners and sponsors, whom I take this opportunity to thank. In parallel, we have continued to sow the seeds, and by the end of this year and into 2024, many more projects will come to fruition.”Addressing his successor, he said he was sure the Department would be“ready to face new challenges with the usual spirit and vigour, with that wealth of professionalism and humanity that I will always carry in my heart”.
It General Floreani, after a proper “thoughts of the Fallen and all those who, following our Flag with sacrifice, have left us a heavy legacy”, and a heartfelt thank you to the Superior Authorities for the trust placed in him by handing him the reins of the Department, he turned to his predecessor, renewing the commitment to“to continue in the same vein and give continuity to the projects that have been started, to face new challenges with the awareness that what has been done constitutes a solid foundation for moving forward in the right direction. […] We will work together, respecting and helping each other – concluded General Floreani, addressing the department's personnel directly – dedicating ourselves to continuing to carry out our mission with excellence, supporting us in managing difficulties, ready to show ourselves to be more than colleagues. I expect from you the right sensitivity in grasping priorities and in supporting activities in harmony and participation, ready to come to our aid without being asked.”.
“In particular, in this Centenary year, the 5th Department has played a leading role in highlighting the excellence that the Air Force has achieved in the use of aerospace instruments for the benefit of citizens and the entire country.”, he declared Warrant Officer Class 2 in his speech.“You have explored, in an absolutely cross-cutting way, the domain of communication, and I use the word domain deliberately because you have approached the Centenary as a complex military operation, through meticulous and painstaking planning and a superlative execution of the operation.”Addressing the two outgoing and incoming Generals, General Colagrande wished to thank General Adamo for being a steady guide for the Department's personnel, leading them with composure and determination to achieve the set objectives, and reiterated General Floreani's welcome to the Air Staff family, confident that he will be able to pick up the baton from his predecessor with absolute composure and competence.
It 5th Department promotes the values, role and image of the Air Force in line with societal evolution, developing communication policies and strategies tailored to the military dimension.
