The RAMi team, representing the whole of Sheppard AFB, won 4 sets to 1
It was held on Saturday 9th November, at the D.L. Ligon Coliseum sports hall, of the Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, the volleyball match between the winning team of the annual tournament of the Sheppard Air Force Base and the University team itself, the so-called Mustangs. Attending the meeting for Sheppard AFB was the Italian Air Force Representative Office (RAMi) at Sheppard, having already won the “Sheppard Intramural 24” competition held among the various units of the Texas base (20 teams made up of trainees and permanent cadre).
The outcome of the match saw the team of RAMi, on behalf of the whole Sheppard AFB, win 4 sets to 1. The cup will be kept at the headquarters of the’82nd Training Wing until the next edition.
Among those present at the event, the Brigadier General Paul Filcek, commander of Sheppard Air Force Base, the President of MSU University Dr Stacia L. Haynie, the Italian sponsors for ENJJPT programme, Mary and John Ferguson, as well as a large delegation from the 82nd Combat SAR Centre and the local Italian community.
The RAMi team was composed of Head of RAMi, Lieutenant Colonel Andrea Cerri, from permanent cadre personnel and ENJJPT programme attendee (Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training), as well as the families of the assigned personnel.
The Sheppard Base it consists of 2 Wings, the 82nd TW and the 80th FTW (so-called ENJJPT). The personnel operating at the two units number approximately 15,000. Sheppard AFB trains around 230 pilots per year, as well as almost all of the maintenance personnel of the United States Air Force.
The sporting event represented a significant moment of encounter between Italian and Texan cultures, contributing not only to integration between Air Force personnel and the local community and, consequently, to active participation in the social and cultural life of Texas, but also to synergy between different nations in international missions.
