Airspace: ENAV SpA delegation at the Aerospace Operations Command

A delegation from ENAV SpA carried out a familiarisation visit to the Poggio Renatico (FE) base.

On 22 May, the Air and Space Operations Command (COA) in Poggio Renatico received a familiarisation visit from Chief Operating Officer of ENAV SpA, Dr Maurizio Paggetti, as part of the established collaboration between the Armed Forces and the Service provider civil in the sector of’Air Traffic Management Cash machine.

Dr. Paggetti, accompanied by Dr Alberto Iovino, Operational Support and Innovative Air Mobility Management of ENAV SpA, was welcomed by the Commander of the Aerospace Control Brigade (BCA) Brigadier General Glauco Mora, who, while highlighting the importance of a shared vision in the use of a precious resource for the country such as airspace, was able to provide an overview of the Brigade's activities in the Air Traffic (AT) sector and in that of Integrated Missile Air Defence (IMAD).

Through its dependent bodies, the BCA indeed covers both the operational Air Traffic coordination activities between the dependent RSCCAM of Ciampino and the corresponding ACCs of ENAV SpA, and those pertaining to DAMI through the dependent ReDAMI, within a framework of constant information exchange and synergy with ENAV for the purpose of national airspace safety. driver of economic and social development for the benefit of the entire community.

Among the common points of interest between the Armed Force and ENAV SpA, particular importance is given to the training of Air Traffic Controllers, a sector in which forms of collaboration have been developed through their respective specialised training centres (the Airspace Control Training Department an employee of BCA and the Training Centre ENAV SpA of Forlì) also in light of the Community regulations under which both organisations are certified by the National Civil Aviation Authority (ENAC).

The delegation from ENAV SpA then visited the secure site where the’11th DAMI Group, While observing the complex activities associated with National Airspace Air Defence conducted 24/7, within the framework of national and NATO provisions. At the same location, activities of the Centre were also presented Space Situational Awareness (CSSA) of the Italian Air Force, an entity dependent on COA, which is responsible for monitoring, surveilling and characterising space objects and their operating environment, as a natural component of the aerospace domain in which the Armed Force is called to operate.

During the farewell address to the delegation at the end of the visit, the Commander of the Air Operations Command, Air Division General Luca Maineri, stressed the importance of a synergistic approach between the different stakeholder from the world of aviation, all the more so in a context of rapid development of new technologies and the introduction of new airspace users, from drones to new high-altitude flight capabilities, for the benefit of the country's security and socio-economic development.

The Aerospace Control Brigade (ACB) It is the body that encompasses the entire range of capabilities of the Armed Force for Integrated Air and Missile Defence (IAMD) and for Operational Air Traffic (OAT). Specifically, its objective is to direct and harmonise the complex of activities of the Armed Force for the performance of its primary task of Air Defence and the orderly and coordinated use of National Airspace by Operational Air Traffic. In carrying out its function as a Service Provider, it contributes to making the Aerospace Operations Command, as the Air Component Command, the point of reference for the Armed Force for the use and development of Aerospace Power.

It Aerospace Operations Command Based in Poggio Renatico (FE), it plans and conducts complex aerial operations in any theatre. The COA exercises Command and Control over permanent operational activities from peacetime onwards, both domestically and in theatres outside national borders. It is also the doctrinal reference point for the use and development of Air Power. These functions are carried out 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, without interruption, through the national Operations Rooms located within the base.
