“A Book to Break Down Barriers” charity initiative for the purchase of a transport vehicle for people with disabilities, to be donated to the Sunrise Onlus Association. On Tuesday, 31st October, the Brindisi Airport Detachment hosted volunteers from the 'Sunrise Onlus Association” as part of a charity initiative aimed at raising funds for the purchase of a minibus to transport people with disabilities to hospital.
The President of the Association, Dr. Maria De Giovanni, attended the event and presented the autobiographical book “On the Trail of Multiple Sclerosis,” the proceeds of which will be donated to the cause. The event is one of the solidarity initiatives organised by the Detachment for the community, demonstrating, as has been done for years, the closeness of the Armed Forces personnel to people experiencing hardship and distress. The volunteers were welcomed by Colonel Gioacchino Cassarà, Commander of the Detachment, who offered a welcoming greeting to those who strive for “the achievement of an objective that improves the living conditions of less fortunate people.” The Commander expressed his heartfelt gratitude to “those who, with great sensitivity, have promoted and realised this solidarity project.” The book, written by Dr. De Giovanni, is intended as a hymn to life, a cry of strength and encouragement for those who are constantly tested by the disease every day and yet do not succumb to pain but react by raising the shield of will and love for life; it is the will to be present and not to give in to oblivion but to give oneself to others. The Brindisi Airport Detachment, under the Logistics Command's Support Service, provides assistance to the United Nations, as well as support to NATO aircraft in transit, and logistical and administrative support to the Armed Forces entities in the Brindisi area.
