Air Force General Mario Renzo Ottone met with the President of the “i Bindun” Association, the wanderers of solidarity. The purpose of the meeting was to launch a joint solidarity project to help minors and adults (differently abled, people with psychiatric problems, orphans, etc.).
The association was founded in 1982 almost by chance and since then it has been dedicated to giving a smile to those who in life have received little or nothing; in doing so, alternating evenings of entertainment with singing challenges, football matches with bike races, “The Binduns”To date, they have managed to build seven social welfare facilities in Rodero, Valmorea and Albiolo, municipalities in the province of Como. Specifically, in five of these facilities, adults with moderate-to-severe intellectual disabilities, people with mental, sensory and intellectual disabilities, as well as children aged 0 to 3 years, with high health integration and suffering from serious cerebral pathologies and subsequent multiple disabilities are accommodated and assisted. The remaining two facilities house two family-type educational communities for school-age minors.
President Romano Parnigoni then explained that the spark was finally lit in 1984, when, upon learning that a child from Milan needed help to undergo a delicate and expensive surgical procedure, he asked Sandro Mazzola, a former Inter and Italian national football player and his personal friend, for help. Other footballers, including the Baresi brothers and Giuseppe Bergomi, who grew up in the parishes and developed a strong sense of solidarity, then joined them. Since then, the Association has grown with many projects and initiatives, gathering the consensus and support of many other footballers.
General Ottone expressed the interest and willingness of the 1st Air Region in joint initiatives by making available to the Association the structure of the Sport Logistics Center at Presidio di Linate, suitable to organize events for this purpose that could involve the personnel of the A.M., some of whom have already been engaged for a long time in supporting “The vagrants of solidarity”.
