The transport concluded in the evening. The aircraft of the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa embarked the ambulance with the little girl, only 6 years old, on board. It is the second urgent medical transport since the start of the Christmas holidays for the Italian Air Force’s on-call crews.

A medical transport mission, carried out this evening by a crew from the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa using a C-130J aircraft, has concluded. The mission enabled the rapid transfer of a young girl in imminent danger of death from Bari to Rome.

The flight, requested by the Prefecture of Bari, was promptly arranged and coordinated rapidly by the Summit Situations Room of the Air Squad Command – 1st Air Region in Milan. This latter, an operational room of the Italian Air Force, immediately gave the order to take off to one of the aircraft that the Armed Force keeps ready, 24 hours a day, in various bases across the national territory, for this kind of mission.

The flight, as is the case for this type of activity, was authorised by the Prime Minister's Office, which manages and coordinates the activities of the State aircraft fleet.

In this instance, given the specific need to transport the ambulance itself on which the child was travelling, a C-130J from the 46th Air Brigade was activated, as it is the only one capable of carrying the vehicle.

The C-130J therefore took off from Pisa to head towards Bari-Palese Airport, where it embarked the ambulance with the young patient and the accompanying medical team on board.

The transport aircraft thus ensured rapid transfer to Rome Ciampino Airport. From here, the ambulance was able to proceed immediately to the Bambino Gesù Paediatric Hospital, where the child will receive the necessary specialist care.

The delicate mission concluded, the C-130J returned to Pisa airbase, immediately becoming available for any further activation in support of the community.

This is the second emergency medical transport carried out by the Air Force's on-call crews since the start of the Christmas holidays. On Christmas Eve, a G650 from the 31st Wing had transferred a woman from Reggio Calabria to Milan, for subsequent admission to the San Matteo Polyclinic in Pavia.

The 46th Air Brigade of Pisa is one of the Italian Air Force Units that carries out operational readiness service for this type of mission, along with the 31st Wing of Ciampino, the 14th Wing of Pratica di Mare, and the helicopters of the 15th Wing of Cervia. The flying units are indeed available to the community 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with aircraft and crews capable of operating, even in complex weather conditions, to ensure the urgent transport not only of people in imminent danger of death, but also of organs, medical teams, or ambulances.
