The Institute of Pozzuoli hosted the fourth conference on “Business Improvement by Performance Simulation in Aerospace&Defense”. This year’s conference, attended by companies, engineers and scholars from all over the world, was organized and presented by Advantech, a spin-off company of the University of Salento, by Alenia Aermacchi, whose presence attests to the importance of the topic today for the aeronautical sector, and by MSC.Software, a company active in the aerospace sector for over 40 years and a leader in the development of CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) software.
Brigadier General Aerea Umberto Baldi emphasized that these “Events that allow the aggregation and development of ideas, projects, and synergies through study, mutual comparison, and discussion on topics of common interest find, in the Aeronautical Academy, the ideal context for their implementation, thanks to the history and tradition of the Institute, which manages to transmit the aeronautical values to future generations of Officers of the Italian Air Force year after year.”.
For the aerospace industry, the development of virtual testing technologies, that is, computer-simulated and increasingly sophisticated visualization systems, is assuming fundamental importance both in the initial definition and design phases of components and systems, and throughout the production processes. The ability to simulate through software, reproducing exactly the behavior of innovative materials and increasingly complex systems under various operating conditions, is a key element for realizing ever more sophisticated projects, while keeping costs and time under control. Traditional testing techniques, in fact, allow for action only on the finished product, whereas with virtual testing it is possible to predict the behavior of a material or system well before it is actually produced, in order to validate the structural model and its use. A fundamental necessity for the future aeronautical products that can generate savings of millions of euros and accelerate the development phase of prototypes.
