Monday, 27 October 2025 – In the presence of the Chief of Staff of the Air Force, Air Force General Antonio CONSERVA and numerous military and civilian authorities, the ceremony of handover of the command of the Flight Safety Inspectorate and the Higher Institute for Flight Safety took place in Rome, in the Hall of Heroes at Palazzo Aeronautica.
It Air Division General Roberto DI MARCO, after just over 5 years since his inauguration, has ceded command of both top bodies to the Air Commodore Paolo TARANTINO.
At the end of his term, the General DI MARCO has formulated a summary of his term of command during which “The general concepts of flight safety have been reformed with the aim of making them increasingly adequate to the needs of the Air Force, its people, and their daily lives.”. He therefore underlined the essential nature of prevention, a task to which all men and women in blue are called, who “it is not the preserve of experts, but represents common ground to be cultivated together, as everyone is a beneficiary”. Finally, he thanked the Chief of Staff of the Air Force for entrusting him with a new important role in the sector of personnel and environmental protection, an area of extreme importance “that must be faced with profound awareness and strong commitment”.
Following this, the General TARANTINO, in his inaugural address, he stressed how the presence of numerous Authorities offers a “the great scope of the commitment, results and credibility achieved by the Inspectorate and the Higher Institute for Flight Safety during this period” and offered his heartfelt thanks to Presspredecessor“for having handed him a prepared, cohesive and dynamic team. Taking inspiration from the fundamental task of the Air Force to continue to ensure “operationally relevant high-readiness forces for aerospace defence and deterrence”, has guaranteed that he will work with preparation and awareness to “support the Armed Forces in engaging new challenges with the utmost determination”.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, the General Preservation he thanked General DI MARCO for his tenacious effort during his five years of service at the Inspectorate and the Higher Institute for Flight Safety. While offering his best wishes for fruitful work to General TARANTINO, he also stressed how the current “growing complexity of the strategic framework” request for “focus on teamwork to facilitate the continuous improvement process” with the aim of achieving the dual objective of “rendering the Armed Forces ever more effective in responding to the needs of the Country”, while ensuring “the safety of personnel and the safeguarding of resources employed”.
The Flight Safety Inspectorate, has the mission to study the problems connected with flight safety and to issue directives concerning the prevention, investigation, and legal aspects of military aircraft accidents.
The Higher Institute for Flight Safety, guarantees the training and qualification in Flight Safety for personnel of the Armed Forces, State Armed Corps, and personnel belonging to other Ministries and civilian organizations, and is responsible for the publication of the journal “Sicurezza del Volo” (Flight Safety), an operational tool to broaden the professional knowledge of crews, controllers, specialists, and all other personnel involved in flight activities.
