The annual seminar on Health, Safety and Environment of the Air Force was held on 23 and 24 February, at the “Adriano Visconti” Auditorium of Palazzo Aeronautica in Rome.
The event, organised by’General Office for the Coordination of Accident Prevention and Environmental Protection It has involved more than one hundred Officers of General and Colonel rank, currently holding command positions within the peripheral, intermediate and central organisations of the Armed Force, confirming itself as a moment of direct confrontation between the Central Body and the Air Force departments on the themes of prevention, personnel protection and environmental sustainability.
The seminar was structured into two thematic days. The first day, dedicated to health and safety in the workplace, opened with a welcome address and a speech by Air Division General Roberto Di Marco, Head of the General Office of UCOPRATA, who outlined the General Office's main strategic directions in the current organisational and regulatory context, stressing the importance of the Commander's leadership and responsibility in promoting a culture of safety and prevention.
Among the most significant interventions, the analysis of real case studies by the’Lawyer Massimo Oggiano, an expert in environmental criminal law and workplace safety, and a lecturer in these subjects at the Libera Università Internazionale degli Studi Sociali (LUISS) “Guido Carli” in Rome, who provided an in-depth analysis of the responsibilities connected to workplace accidents, offering his perspective on the most recent case law trends in the field.
The second day was dedicated to environmental issues, with a focus on regulatory obligations, responsibility profiles, and the latest developments in resource protection and risk management.
Lieutenant Colonel Fabrizio Massimi, the liaison for inspectorate surveillance activities at the Carabinieri Command for Environmental Protection and Energy Security, delved into the topic of environmental surveillance controls, highlighting the main critical issues encountered and the areas of greatest focus for the Armed Forces' bodies.
The highlight of the seminar was the speech by Air Force General Antonio Conserva, Chief of Staff of the Air Force, who in his concluding address recalled the central role of the Commander. In particular, his function as guarantor in the management of safety standards and in Environmental protection, a direct expression of responsibility and leadership. In this context, the Security and the Sustainability have been reiterated as Strategic assets inseparable from the operational efficiency and institutional credibility of the Armed Forces.
