From November 7th, fencing courses begin for the students of the Military Air Force School. This sport, which combines grace, elegance, discipline, strength, agility and skill, sees an Air Force training institute involved for the first time.
The educational intent of this sports activity, aimed at discipline and the physical and mental growth of the students, was highlighted by the School Commander, Colonel Claudio Icardi, who stated: “Fencing, more than any other sport, is a discipline that manages to optimize the organization of time in movements, balance, reflection, and responsiveness. This is a sport in which one must combine these and many other qualities, and that will allow students to approach, in their method and agility, the art of flight.”.
The Douhet School transmits its values to its students through symbols as well, as happens, for example, during the swearing-in ceremony or when the badges are handed out. In this sense, the white weapon perfectly represents a formative tool useful for instilling important values, as it itself is a symbol of honor and loyalty for every soldier.
It is worth remembering that the Air Force has been practicing this sport since 1964, achieving notable successes and victories over the years, even at the Olympic level. In this way, fencing becomes an important and engaging reference point for the young cadets training at the School.
