Support from the Brindisi Airport Detachment for a Spanish aircraft deployed for an operation conducted by the European Agency for the Management of Operational Cooperation at the External Borders. The Spanish Guardia Civil, authorised by the Air Force General Staff, will operate from the Salento department, with a Casa CN-235 aircraft, whose objective, in collaboration with the Guardia di Finanza (Financial Police), is to patrol the borders of the lower Adriatic Sea, the Ionian Sea, and the Strait of Otranto. Patrol operations, totalling 13 sorties and around 40 flight hours, are the figures that characterised the activity carried out by the French “Reims-Cessna F406” aircraft from 1 to 18 June, thanks also to the activity of the Salento detachment, which provided the necessary technical and logistical support service, ensuring ground assistance, air traffic and meteorological navigation services, and coordination of refuelling operations. The Brindisi Detachment, under the Logistic Command, in addition to providing support for United Nations humanitarian and peacekeeping operations, also provides air navigation services for civil aviation 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, as well as supporting transit aircraft belonging to NATO countries. The Detachment also exercises command functions of the Air Force Garrison through logistical and administrative support to the Armed Forces entities in the Brindisi area.
