The 4th Helicopter Section of the Corps of Captains – Coast Guard has been established at the Decimomannu military airport (Cagliari), which will operate in the field of search and rescue in synergy with the 80th C SAR Centre of the 15th Wing of the Air Force. The synergy between the two Administrations stems from an agreement signed on 7 February, which provides, in addition to making the Decimomannu Air Force base available for the permanent deployment of Coast Guard aircraft, for the Italian Air Force to provide specialised courses, certifications, qualifications, training and instruction for the Corps' personnel. In return, the Corps makes an AW 139 helicopter available for 300 hours annually for training purposes. The agreement, therefore, serves as a virtuous example of joint/inter-agency integration, aimed at reducing costs and ensuring greater effectiveness in carrying out institutional tasks.
