Third emergency medical transport in less than 24 hours for the Italian Air Force's on-call crews

The emergency medical transport with a Gulfstream G650 aircraft from the 31st Wing of the Italian Air Force in favour of a baby just one day old concluded early this afternoon. The young patient needed to be rapidly transferred from Lamezia Terme Airport to Naples Airport in order for her to be admitted to the Monaldi Specialist Hospital in the Campania capital.
This is the third emergency medical transport carried out in less than 24 hours by Aeronautica Militare crews on standby. In the previous hours, a G650 from the 31st Wing had transferred a woman from Lampedusa to Palermo, and a C-130J from the 46th Air Brigade had transported a man from Ciampino to Bari.
All emergency medical transports, as always happens in these cases, have been authorised by the Prime Minister's Office, which manages and coordinates the activities of the state aircraft fleet.
The request for this particular urgent transport came from the Prefecture of Catanzaro to the Summit Situations Room of the Air Squadron Command – 1st Air Region in Milan, which immediately activated the crew on standby alert.
The young patient travelled in a special incubator for the duration of the flight, allowing her to be safely transferred and constantly monitored by a medical team.

The Italian Air Force’s flight departments are available to the public 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with aircraft and crews capable of operating even in complex weather conditions, to ensure the urgent transport not only of people in imminent danger of death, but also of organs, medical teams or ambulances. Hundreds of flight hours are carried out every year for these types of operations by the aircraft of the 31st Wing of Ciampino, the 14th Wing of Pratica di Mare, the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa, and the helicopters of the 15th Wing of Cervia.
