Assets and specialised personnel from the Air Force providing support to ensure the security framework for the event. On Thursday, 28 September, for the inaugural ceremony, there will also be a flypast by the Frecce Tricolori.
The Air Force, through specialised assets and personnel, is providing, together with Army personnel, a valuable contribution to ensure the security framework for the 44th edition of the “Ryder Cup”, one of the most prestigious international golf tournaments, taking place at the “Marco Simone & Country Club” in Guidonia Montecelio (Rome).
In particular, in support of the security measures put in place by the Prefecture of Rome, the Air Force is employing: a P-72A aircraft, a patrol aircraft that can be used for reconnaissance, acquisition, and identification of ground-based information; an MQ-9A Predator B remotely piloted aircraft for reconnaissance, surveillance, and aerial imagery acquisition missions; and a Counter-Unmanned Aerial System (C-UAS) anti-drone team operated by personnel from the 16th Wing “Air Riflemen” as a joint force with the Army, for the detection and potential neutralisation of drones, even very small ones, flying at low altitude over sensitive or restricted areas.
All assets, provided for the sporting event to the Prefecture of Rome, are coordinated by the Joint Operations Command.
On Thursday 28 September, during the inauguration ceremony, the National Aerobatic Team performed a flyover of the event location.
