So many messages of closeness and affection for the Italian Air Force received recently In Jesolo, last Sunday, an extraordinary event took place.
Those present on the Lido told us of a surreal atmosphere.
I can guess what they were referring to. Everybody stopped, even the children.
I've been told that the sound of the sea could be heard! As though there had been nobody there.
It was silence that people wanted; it was to silence that they entrusted their prayers for Alessandro, Giuseppe, Mariangela and Paolo Piero, presenting the nation with their emotion. Emotion has spread to every city!
From every part of Italy come countless messages of friendship, sincere gratitude, heartfelt proximity; calls to continue working, to put in maximum effort, as always, as every day, just as the Italian Air Force has been doing for over 90 years.
Many, very many messages, even on social media, to the point of overwhelming us. I don't know if anyone could ever have imagined so much affection! I don't know if there are the right words to thank you, one by one, for your comments.
I can only testify that your women, your men in uniform are at work, more determined than ever to carry out the institutional duty entrusted to us.
And now I am flying over many areas far from our country. It is your appreciation that gives us energy, the strength to overcome difficult trials, and even emotion.
And it makes us feel strong, honoured to serve the country. Thank you all for being part of us in remembering Alessandro, Giuseppe, Mariangela and Paolo Piero, who loved the Air Force and have taken their final flight, the most daring one. Pasquale Preziosa
