On Sunday 17th January, the 31st Wing aircraft from Ciampino brought the first 13 people back to their homeland. The operations were coordinated by the Situation Room of the Air Force General Staff in contact with the Air Force Operations Command of Poggio Renatico (Ferrara), in collaboration with the Department of Civil Protection and the Crisis Unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Haiti: Sky TG 24 broadcasts the testimony of Captain Piazza. Captain Fabio Campi, pilot of the Italian Air Force's 31st Wing, was a guest in the Sky TG 24 studio to recount his operational experience during the initial phases of rescue operations for the Haitian population struck by the earthquake. Specifically, Captain Campi was a crew member on the first Italian aircraft to successfully land in Haiti to transport the Civil Protection and Red Cross “advanced team”, whose task was to prepare the arrival of the field hospital which arrived a few days later aboard a C-130J aircraft of the 46th Air Brigade from Pisa. Furthermore, Captain Campi also took part in the mission to repatriate compatriots who survived the earthquake.
