The 2nd Missile Maintenance Department of the Air Force hosted a training exercise for the Army. Through the installation of approximately 140 inflatable tents, shower shelters, toilet containers, and field kitchens, a “Role 2 Enhanced” field hospital was set up, designed for a scenario that could involve the civilian population in a military health support operation. The exercise covered an area of approximately 5 hectares.
The most significant part of the demonstration, which took place on Sunday 28th September, was attended by Lieutenant General Mario Roggio, Logistic Commander of the Army. Upon his arrival in Padua, General Roggio was welcomed by the Director of the 2nd R.M.M., who thanked him for the support provided and the availability granted. After signing the Honour Book, General Roggio proceeded to the exercise site to witness the execution of some demonstrative activities, actual tactical acts including a “MEDEVAC”, meaning the procedure for the rescue of wounded soldiers, utilising an AB 205 helicopter. This last demonstration involved approximately 140 men, plus military doctors and nurses, in the presence of around 400 guests, including city authorities, heads of Military Health, as well as representatives from the University of Padua and several school groups. On this occasion, the Prefect of Padua, Dr. Ennio Mario Sodano, also attended, and representing the Air Force were Inspector General Ottavio Sarlo, Head of the Health Corps, Inspector General Enrico Tomao, Head of the Health Service of the Logistic Command, and Brigadier General Manfredo Di Stefano, Deputy Director of the General Office of Health.
The 2nd Missile Maintenance Department, reporting to the 2nd Division of the Air Force Logistic Command, ensures the technical, logistical, and maintenance management of the HH-212 helicopter, surface-to-air missile defence systems, onboard armament, and ground armament belonging to the Italian Air Force. It also carries out the functions of Air Force Garrison Command, guaranteeing logistical and administrative support to all Italian Air Force entities in the Padua area.
