Air Squadron General Luca Goretti showed himself “particularly interested in the type of flight training provided by the Department”, As he highlighted during his speech to the staff of the Center, there is a plan for investment by the Armed Forces.
The school, in fact, despite its young age, already meets the most stringent European standards for the training of military pilots destined for European transport lines, as stipulated by a program shared by 9 countries including Italy: the’European Undergraduate Military Transport Pilot Training (EUMTPT) thanks to which the Center acquired the title of European Defence Airlift School (EDAS Italy), under the guidance of the EDA (European Defence Agency).
Then the visit was made to the entire school, and in particular to the AL-SIM simulation bay, the static type FNTP-II, which is used for various courses, including the one MCC-Multi Crew Cooperation/Coordination for Italian pilots from all the Armed Forces and State bodies, as well as foreigners, a veritable training ground for the principles of CRM (Crew Resource Management) and TEM (Threat and Error Management) and for those of Applied Leadership in Aviation.
The simulator is also used for the first part of the BPM (Military Pilot’s Certificate) course, before the actual flight, precisely to simulate the flight patterns that the students will subsequently practice on the aircraft. Piaggio P180, from basic flight forms with maneuvers single engine and in adverse meteorological conditions at international airports, up to the most advanced forms such as tactical low-altitude flights and the simulation of operational flights.
Subsequently, the 204th CAE MC Flight Group where there are both frequent flyers who aspire to become military pilots, and pilots who already have operational experience and are attending the course to become Flight Instructors. “I also came from the 204th group and flew on the G-91T” The Chief of Staff of the Air Force highlighted this, recalling the late 1980s and the pre-operational course that was held at the base of Amendola where the group operated in the past.
In the year of Centenary The Air Force’s Training Center for Multi-Crew Aircraft will reach some of its most important milestones: its first 10 years as a flight school, the achievement of the 100th number of military pilots certified and its first 10,000 flight hours on the P180 aircraft.
The C.A.E. Multi Crew, dependent on School Command of the A.M./3rd Air Region Based in Bari, it provides advanced training for the Air Force pilot trainees destined for combat service support lines. The school also trains pilots of other Armed Forces or Armed Corps of the State according to the most modern international guidelines of the “Multi Crew” concept for fixed-wing aircraft.
