Poland, NATO Air Policing: visit of Ambassadors Talò and Amati to TFA White Eagle

The Italian Ambassador to Poland, Aldo Amati, and Ambassador Francesco Talò visiting the White Eagle Task Force engaged in NATO Air Policing activities.

The Italian Ambassador to Poland Aldo Amati and the Permanent Representative of Italy to the NATO Ambassador Francesco Talò, accompanied by Air Division General Mauro Lunardi, they visited the Task Force Air “White Eagle”, engaged in Poland as part of NATO activities enhanced Air Policing – Block 60.

After a brief welcoming address from the Commander, Colonel. Salvatore Florio, in the meeting with the men and women of TFA, Ambassador Amati wished to express his heartfelt thanks, “Also on behalf of the Polish authorities and the Minister of Defence Mariusz Błaszczak for the highly professional work you are doing at this particular time, following the Russian invasion of Ukraine,” highlighting how TFA's mission “operationally and concretely represents real support for our Polish ally.”.

Ambassador Talò went on to emphasise that “This is a special mission, an enhanced Air Policing mission, moreover, just minutes away from a force that currently represents a threat to our allies on the front line,” a mission where “The Italy that produces is represented, the best part of Italy from the point of view of human and technological resources, for which we are proud of your work and the challenges that you and your aircraft face every day.”.

During the visit, Col. Florio illustrated the Task Force's activities, particularly highlighting the Alpha Scrambles already carried out due to the presence of military aircraft in flight in border areas.

Similarly, he explained how the actual operational activity is managed by Combined Air Operations Centre (CAOC) in Uedem, Germany, outlining the various phases that characterise it, and describing what is carried out daily by the TFA to best ensure the security device required by NATO of all its Allies.

The visit continued along the flight line, where the aircraft's operational capabilities were described. Eurofighter, the most modern fighter developed in Europe, capable of seamlessly offering all the capabilities required by NATO within the scope of Air Defence.

The’enhanced Air Policing (eAP) guaranteed by Task Force Air White Eagle, is the activity conducted by NATO to protect the north-eastern flank of the Alliance's airspace, and it is developed through employment within the Command and Control Chain NATO of 4 Eurofighter from the 4th, 36th, 37th and 51st Wings of the’Italian Air Force, ensuring rapid intervention to protect airspace in the event of penetration by unidentified aircraft or those that could represent a possible threat.
