The Italian Air Force adopts new paints specifically developed by the Experimental Flight Centre to reduce environmental and health risks.
The new painting cycle, specifically identified by the Air Force's Experimental Flight Centre, provides performance in compliance with military aviation standards. This is achieved through the use of surface treatment and primer products entirely free from Hexavalent Chromium (VI) compounds. A further reduction in environmental impact and health risks for personnel involved in maintenance operations has been achieved by identifying topcoat paints with low organic solvent content, such as waterborne paints, which maintain characteristics meeting military specifications.
The new painting cycle, which will cover the entire C-130J fleet over the next three years, demonstrates the Italian Air Force's commitment, also implemented through the continuous improvement of its processing and maintenance cycles, towards the full satisfaction of the requirements demanded by current regulations concerning environmental protection and worker health.
