MISSION IN NIGER: GENERAL MARCO LANT TAKES COMMAND

Air Brigadier General Marco Lant has taken over command of the MISIN mission in Niger from Brigadier General Claudio Dei. The Government has authorised the “Bilateral support mission in the Republic of Niger - MISIN” (with an expanded geographical area of intervention also including Mauritania, Nigeria and Benin) in order to increase capabilities for combating illegal trafficking and security threats, as part of a joint European and US effort to stabilise the area and strengthen the territorial control capabilities of the Nigerien authorities and the G5 Sahel countries.
