From 13 September to 03 October, the Air Defence Units of the Air Force, on a mission in Iceland, will ensure the defence of NATO airspace in Iceland. The activity ofAir Policingis conducted from peacetime and consists of the continuous surveillance of NATO airspace integrity, as well as the identification of any violations of that integrity, in response to which appropriate countermeasures must be taken, such as, for example, the rapid take-off of interceptor fighter aircraft, which in technical terms is definedScramble.
Air policing is carried out within the area of responsibility of NATO's Allied Command Operation (ACO –ACOin Brussels and is coordinated by Air Command in Ramstein (Germany).
