The contingent of the Italian Support Mission in the Republic of Niger (MISIN) to help the national reference neonatal center
The donation of 1,000 sanitary kits for cesarean deliveries took place on January 14 at the hospital Motherhood of Issaka Gazoby of Niamey, at the conclusion of a project Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC), aimed at supporting the public health sector in the Nigerian capital.
The event was attended by the Commander of MISIN, Colonel Pilot David Cipelletti and from the General Director of Motherhood of Issaka Gazoby the Professor. Madi Nayama.
Among the authorities present were the Italian Ambassador in Niger Emilia Gatto, the Minister of Public Health Idi Illiassou Mainassara, the Minister for the Promotion of Women and Child Protection Allahoury Aminata Zourkaleini, and the 2nd Vice President of the National Assembly of Niger, Hadiza Seyni Djermakoye.
The Motherhood of Issaka Gazoby It is the reference center for the support, teaching, and research of reproductive health, which provides most of its services free of charge, including cesarean deliveries, care for newborns, and treatment of gynecological and breast cancers.
Women who need a cesarean section must be provided with a health kit containing all the medicines and medications necessary for the mother and child during and after the surgical procedure.
The economic difficulties facing the healthcare system do not allow for the free distribution of these kits to midwives, who, in turn, cannot afford to cover the cost of purchasing them.
The donation made by MISIN It will allow 1,000 women to become mothers in safe conditions, reducing the risk of complications even for the newborns.
The Nigerian Minister of Public Health highlighted that the donation “It will undoubtedly improve not only the care of women and newborns, but also the working conditions of healthcare staff, who continue to work tirelessly for the well-being of mothers and children in Niger.”He then concluded with an extended thank-you to the Italian Government: “Ladies and Gentlemen of Italian military contingent in Niger, I ask you to convey the gratitude of the Government and the people of Niger to the authorities of the Italian Government.”.
Thanks were also expressed to the MISIN General Director: “We would like, on behalf of all the staff of the Issaka Gazoby Maternity Hospital in Niamey, of the patients and the newborns of Niger, and in my own name, to say thank you to the military of the Bilateral Support Mission to Niger”.

The MISIN was established in 2018 as a result of bilateral cooperation agreements between the Government of the Italian Republic and the Government of the Republic of Niger.
