The meteorology and its impact on most agricultural developments have attracted the interest of visitors, who are also intrigued by the numerous meteorological instruments on display, both classic and state-of-the-art.
From Friday 14 to Sunday 16 July, the Air Force participated, with a stand of its Meteorological Service, at the Coldiretti Village Set up in San Benedetto del Tronto. Over two hundred thousand visitors visited the Village, consisting of over 200 stands, including an exhibition area dedicated to the Armed Forces and the State Corps.
There were many enthusiasts, but also simple curious people, children and teenagers who enjoyed watching the videos of the events celebrating the Centenary and learning about the Institute’s activities related to the Armed Forces and those specific to the Meteorological Service.
On this occasion, the Air Force presented to the public its activities using the display of several instruments, equipment and sensors, also highlighting the significant contribution made in monitoring greenhouse gases in the atmosphere for the study of climate change.
In particular, the public was able to appreciate the importance of meteorology also through its correlation with the’agriculture. Among the topics addressed are the impact that meteorological events have not only on people’s daily lives but also on most agricultural activities: weather and climatic conditions, rainfall and irradiation can favor the growth and development of plants or, in the case of extreme phenomena (heavy precipitation, hail, frost, drought, etc.), negatively affect the smooth operation of the agri-food industry and its crops.
Among the numerous meteorological instruments, the classic ones were exhibited, representing the history of terrestrial and airborne meteorological observations, as well as the latest generation ones. The field meteorological station, operational and capable of providing objective answers to the sensation of a temperature perceived as very high throughout the event, attracted great interest, showing in real time the high temperatures and humidity values.
The promotion and coordination of the initiative were handled by’General Staff of the Air Force and State Meteorological Office, While the management of the stand was handled by a team composed of staff from State Meteorological Service of the General Staff of the Air Force Command, of 4th Brigade of Telecommunications and Air Defence Systems and Flight Assistance of Borgo Piave, and of 15th Air Wing of Cervia, as well as by personnel of the Aviation English Training Center in Loreto for the dissemination of general information about the Armed Forces.
