From January 25th, the website meteoam.it and the “Meteo Aeronautica” App are changing and being renewed: real-time observations, geo-referenced maps, and interactive functionalities with the technological and consulting support of Oracle
The Italian Air Force, as it kicks off celebrations for its Centenary, which will officially be observed on 28 March, is renewing its meteorological information platforms. The new website www.meteoam.it and the new “Meteo Aeronautica” App will offer services increasingly in line with citizens' needs.
There are many new features on offer, with the aim of putting the user at the centre: in particular, a more modern interface and user-friendly, aimed at both specialist users in the sector and non-expert citizens, intended to more effectively enhance the different types of information and data from the Italian Air Force Meteorological Service, which will be presented in various formats, including advanced maps, meteograms, and widget. It Air Vice-Marshal Giovanni Francesco Adamo, Head of the 5th Department “Communication” of the Air Force Staff, he also added: “new ones will also be introduced simplified content publishing features intuitive, also to make scientific topics of particular interest more immediately understandable, such as, for example, Space Weather or content such as that of the aeronautical meteorology magazine”.
For sea and mountain enthusiasts, two dedicated sections will be available: for the sea, the map will be enriched with specific information such as sea state, wave direction and period, as well as Meteomar and Gale Warning messages; for mountain lovers, there will be the option to view the snowline altitude and text forecasts for the mountain stations of the Meteomont network.
The Meteorological Service of the Italian Air Force's platform upgrade, which has as one of its main functions the stewardship of meteorological data in our country - and precisely for this reason it is an active member of World Meteorological Organization (WMO) – wants to mark a further step towards ever-greater digitalisation of data and accessibility for citizens, a modernisation that falls in an important year, that of the centenary of the Air Force, which as he pointed out Chief of Staff of the Air Force, Air Squad General Luca Goretti, “This will be a great opportunity to tell our story, to showcase our values, our ideals, and our valuable skills in service of the community and institutions.”.
Through the new portal, the Air Force disseminates its real-time meteorological data, such as Observations across over two hundred points – including those on airports throughout Italy – and, on the basis of advanced mathematical models, provides forecasts for up to five days, conveying various meteorological information to the public.
The Air Force also offers citizens, businesses, and institutions the chance to request a wide range of meteorological data and products through its website, which can be used for various purposes.
In the project management of the new portal and app, the Italian Air Force was supported by Oracle Consulting, a collaboration that led to the definition of a solution for design winning in a position to guarantee the necessary expertise and the success of the project, which is based on technologies and Cloud and Oracle. Oracle CX Cloud applications also allow users' behaviour to be collected and evaluated in real time, providing an increasingly personalised experience, always with the utmost attention to respecting privacy. Privacy.

Even the computational resource needs of the application components are no longer a problem thanks to the adoption of the cloud, which has greatly simplified and accelerated development activities. Furthermore, the architecture designed for the new MeteoAM achieves extremely high levels of scalability and reliability, along with the possibility of further expansion through the use of different Oracle Cloud Regions, to have advanced disaster recovery and backup mechanisms.”
