A training course for new military Competent Doctors to make local services more efficient Health surveillance is now a qualifying element of the Medical Officer's activity; the theoretical-practical training course set up by the Health Service is able to accompany the Officer of the Air Force Medical Corps from the beginning and for the entire duration of their activity. The Competent Doctor is a professional figure explicitly provided for by Legislative Decree 81/08. The qualification can be attained through various professional pathways and maintained exclusively through specific periodic refresher courses (Continuing Medical Education) for the sector. The obligations laid down by the Law, concerning the role and tasks of the Competent Doctor, are fulfilled in the Armed Forces through an organisational/command system (’Occupational Medicine Service“) coordinated and monitored by the Logistics Command Health Service, which identifies the Air Force Medical Officers who are ”Competent Doctors“ holding the requirements laid down by the regulations, and proposes their appointment to the Unit Commanders/Employers who request them.
