Intervention by an HH 212 helicopter of the Italian Mission in Malta for the urgent transport of a sailor in imminent danger of life
The helicopter took off around 7:00 PM and, after the scheduled rescue procedures for the case, recovered the unconscious patient. The man was transported to Mater Dei Hospital in Swatar.
The Search and Rescue (S.A.R.) Section of the Italian Air Force is the sole operational component of the Italian Defence Cooperation Mission (MICCD), and is responsible for both the training of aircrew and the S.A.R. Service. All flying activity is conducted with mixed Italian-Maltese crews. The S.A.R. Service operates 24/7, even in adverse weather conditions.
